They teach that you should teach a man to fish instead of giving a man a fish as a lesson in kindness.
But, that is not the end of the lesson.
If I am a fisherman, I am going to teach a man to fish for 2 reasons.
1.) Hire him to fish for me in my fishing company.
2.) Push him to form his own fishing company to compete with me.
If I am the only fishing company in the bay, then I will become a monopoly, and competing companies ensure that there will be no market stagnation.
Companies that become monopolies do not have any reason to improve themselves or maintain quality.
In this, you create a system where the man who learns fishing from you can earn respect in the community over time, and maintain it through quality of work.
That, to me, is true kindness.
